Armed Police Storm High School in Drugs Raid. Here come the road checks! [Bottom]

By Mark Sage, PA News, in New York

Armed police stormed a high school and ordered children to the floor at gunpoint so they could conduct a drugs search, it emerged today,

Officers ran into the South Carolina school, screaming at pupils to lie face down, before rifling through their bags.

Students who did not do as they were told were handcuffed.

Parents were outraged at the raid, but principal George McCrackin said he would "utilise whatever forces that I deem necessary" to keep drugs out of the school. Even if we have to violate everyone's rights and kill a few of them for their own good.

Stratford High School in Goose Creek has 2,700 pupils but does not have a reputation for drugs or crime.

During the raid a sniffer dog found traces of substances in 12 bags, but no drugs were recovered.

Parent Latonia Simmons called the incident "senseless".

"Now why did they have to take all that force?" she told CNN.

"They were innocent kids. They were just minding their own business, getting ready for class."

But Mr McCrackin denied the raid was an over-reaction.

He said: "I'm sure it was an inconvenience to those individuals who were on that hallway. But I think there's a valuable experience
there."

Police said CCTV footage inside the hall led them to believe there had been "drugs activity".

A spokesman added that although some officers had drawn their weapons they were "not pointing at the faces or heads of the students" only "their abdomens, groin area and legs".

85-year-old Man Beaten, Pepper-Sprayed By Police

CNN | January 10 2005

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (AP) -- Police said they are investigating an incident in which an officer pepper-sprayed an 85-year-old man during a traffic stop.

Leon Nins said officer Michael Lee also beat him after he took too long to stop his car. Police deny that and say Nins attacked Lee.

Leaders of St. Paul's NAACP chapter and St. Paul African American Leadership Council alleged that race was a factor. Nins is black.

Nins said at a news conference Thursday that he was bringing sandwiches and cupcakes to his wife during his daily visit to her nursing home December 27 when Lee tried to pull him over for having expired license tags.

Nins, a World War II veteran who stands about 5-feet-7 and weighs 145 pounds, claims Lee was angry that he didn't stop his car right away.

"I told him, 'If I'd have seen you, I would have stopped,"' Nins said earlier. "He got really mad about that. He told me to get in his car, and he started beating me on the leg and on the side of the arm. He pushed me down on the floor, and he was slamming the door on my legs."

Nins was arrested and jailed for two days. The Ramsey County Attorney's Office declined to charge him with a felony, but prosecutors still could bring a lesser charge.

Nins said he went to a hospital for treatment after his release.

Curious "checkpoints" popping up all over the US under guise of "finding terrorists".

Bus collides with tractor trailer on New York highway

North Hudson, New York-AP -- More than 50 people were hurt when a Canadian charter bus crashed into a tractor trailer at a U-S Border Patrol security checkpoint in New York.

Troopers said the bus driver failed to stop when he approached a line of cars at the checkpoint, about 75 miles south of the border.

Of the 54 people taken to hospitals, three were airlifted to facilities in upstate New York and Vermont and are in critical condition. At least 15 other people were in stable condition, while others were treated and released.

The bus was on its way from Quebec to Florida when the accident occurred Sunday on a highway in North Hudson, about 90 miles north of Albany.

These checkpoints are being setup to accustom the public to the coming Fascist Police State. Papers Please, papers!? Or should we say: "Do you have your National Identification Biometric Implant with you today, sir"?

Woman charged with holding an apple while driving

London Guardian | January 25 2005

A woman tempted by an apple while driving set off a Kafkaesque chain of events, a court heard yesterday, including aerial photography by a police helicopter, nine preliminary court hearings, and a trial lasting more than 2 hours.

Unlike Eve, nursery nurse Sarah McCaffery, 23, had not taken a bite out of the forbidden fruit when she was stopped by PC Lee Butler on December 4 last year, but she was holding it in her right hand whilst swinging her Ford Ka into a left turn.

Apple or not, the manoeuvre at a junction in Hebburn, South Tyneside, free of pedestrians and other traffic, was carried out "perfectly" said her solicitor, Geoffrey Forrester, but it was spotted by a patrol car parked nearby.

PC Butler pounced, initially because he thought that Ms McCaffery's apple was a mobile phone. He then issued the nurse with a £30 fixed penalty notice as part of a Northumbria police drive against food or drink at the wheel.

Ms McCaffery was found not to have been in proper control of her car by South Tyneside magistrates yesterday, but Mr Forrester said that her real offence had been to fight the case.

"This is all about trying to crush her because she is the one who stood up and said 'This is silly'," he told the court. "The police service and the Crown Prosecution Service do not like to be told they are silly.

"Nothing illustrates the nonsense of this case more than the resources that have been thrown at it." The magistrates heard that after Ms McCaffery had the "temerity" to challenge the fixed penalty, police used a helicopter to film the junction. A sergeant and constable in a patrol car made a video.

Mr Forrester claimed that offences such as drug-dealing, burglary or assault on children would not have been lavished with such attention. He added that Ms McCaffery was of "impeccable character".

Prosecutor Chris Kay, whose evidence included a second video taken from the helicopter as well as aerial photographs, said that the proceedings had cost £425, excluding the aerial work. The court heard that the helicopter had not been sent specifically to film the junction, after Ms McCaffery's decision to go to court, but had taken the video and photographs in the course of another job in the area.

Ms McCaffery, of Hebburn, was fined £60 plus £100 costs at the 10th court hearing in the case. The chairman of the bench, Ken Buck, said: "We accept that there are times when you can drive with one hand, but, in holding an apple while negotiating a left hand turn, we consider you not to have been in full control."

A spokesman for Northumbria police said costs did not have any bearing on decisions to prosecute. "The defendant chose for the matter to go to a court trial rather than accept a fixed penalty notice, so we were obliged to gather all appropriate evidence to present our case."
