Mother of RCMP shooting victim says claim of self-defence doesn't ring true

By TERRI THEODORE
VANCOUVER (CP) - The mother of a young man killed during a confrontation in a Houston, B.C. police detachment says the police officer's claim her son attacked him doesn't ring true.

Linda Bush said Tuesday the officer's description of the language and actions supposedly made by her son doesn't sound at all like her son, even if he was drunk, as B.C.'s attorney general has said. Ian Bush, 22, died last October after being arrested for having an open beer outside a Houston hockey arena. Just 20 minutes later he was dead, shot in the back of the head.

His mother has launched a civil suit, but a statement of defence filed by RCMP Const. Paul Koester claims Bush suddenly punched the officer when he was asked to sign a document promising to appear in court.

The court statement said Koester was being choked from behind and "Bush told Const. Koester to take his last breath."

"No. No, it just doesn't ring true for us at all," Linda Bush, 54, said Tuesday in reaction to hearing the statement.

"We just don't think it's the way Ian would have behaved at all."

The Bush family's lawyer, Howard Rubin, told a news conference Tuesday that tests done on Bush's body after the shooting show a "substantial" amount of alcohol in his system, but no drugs.

But Bush said her son wasn't a violent man and instead acted playful and "goofy" when he was drinking alcohol.

Bush had given the officer a different name, which Linda said was a typical example of her son's humour.

"I think he thought the officer knew his name," she said. "He was just being silly, joking around as he always does."

The Crown decided last week that no charges would be laid against the rookie RCMP officer.

Because there will be no trial, Bush said she isn't sure her family will ever know what really happened.

"No one else was there and they had no video or audio or anything like that on. There's just what the officer tells us, and of course Ian can't tell us," she said.

A coroner's inquest will be held into the shooting death, but no date has been set.

While they wait for the inquest, both the Bush family and their lawyer will be lobbying the provincial government for a separate civilian body to investigate similar police shootings.

"There is a groundswell of public and media support for a change in how violent police confrontations resulting in death are investigated," Rubin said.

He said his office has been inundated with calls of support since the decision not to lay charges against the RCMP officer.

Bush said getting that change is behind everything her family is doing.

She said it's not fair to the victim or to the investigating police officer to have police investigate police shootings.

"Because I don't know how you could be that impartial when it's somebody that's. . .your fellow officer that you're investigating,"

Bush wants the changes to prevent the same thing from happening to someone else.

"If changes had been made before October 2005 maybe Ian would be here," she said.

B.C. Solicitor General John Les said a special unit is unnecessary because every in-custody death is investigated by the coroner and those testifying do so under oath.

"So I think what everyone needs to do is let the coroner's inquest proceed," he said. "And lets re-evaluate the situation then."

BUSH Inquiry testimony busts entire RCMP version of events.... Police cover-up confirmed!

Keep reading... the last witness has testified, and you'll want to hear what he said, at the bottom of this page.

Scan of Canwest article May 23/2007

Take particular note of second to last paragraph describing a "missing tape" of the incident. My how convenient for someone....

Finally we have an inquiry, and the RCMP are still pushing a pack of lies to cover-up their brutal murder of 22 year old.

[Click above pic for inquest video from CTV]

Notice that RCMP claim no tape of the incident exists because "machine not running", yet these machines are specifically placed in holding facilities for these very incidents. Yet again the RCMP "investigated" themselves, as they do routinely as a means to cover-up serious crimes committed by their fraternal brotherhood.

The testimony given by the killer is inconsistent with injuries suffered by Bush and the officer. No doubt the tape would have refuted the testimony of the killer, and that is why the tape was disposed of, and the RCMP issued their ludicrous statement to the media that the equipment was not running at that particular moment.

What the RCMP expect us to believe is that a 22 year old with no past history of violence, who had been arrested for "having an open beer" suddenly turned into a cop killer, and while intoxicated, over-powered a larger police constable and began to choke him "from behind". The officer, instead of trying to remove his hands from his throat, or reach for his pepper spray or baton "managed to grab his pistol" and shot Ian Bush in the back of the head. The killer, Const. Paul Koester then claims that he "doesn't recall pulling the trigger"......

Those that knew Ian Bush's character (including his mother) state they believe "something shady" is going on with the RCMP, and don't believe the police version of events.... Evidence suggests Bush was first beaten and kicked in the groin by Constable Paul Koester, before he was shot in the back of the head, as he lay face down on a coach.  [See below video for more]

Now click here to watch clip giving evidence that refutes that of Const. Paul Koester.

In the above video the RCMP issue the statement that it is "not known what community he is working in now" in referring to Koester.

First of all, this is clearly yet ANOTHER blatant lie, as the RCMP surely know where their employees are working.... but more disturbing is the fact this killer is still on the loose working as a "peace officer" in our communities. The same group that routinely gives public service announcements for other dangerous offenders, suddenly is now hiding the whereabouts of one of their own that brutally shot a 22 year old man in the back of his head, and then proceeded to destroy evidence - in this case the video tape from the cell where the murder took place.

The destruction of evidence damaging to police is a frequent occurrence in these cases, happening with more and more regularity it seems.

Below, the killer's amnesia returns at inquiry.... Media also spins the events as being an emotional ordeal for the killer who is claiming he was the passive victim of the events. Why, if this is so, was the tape that would prove his version of events destroyed, and false statements by the RCMP given claiming the tape never existed? It is routine procedure to tape events of interrogation rooms, and when an incident occurs those tapes are then used as evidence on a regular basis, yet in a shooting death we are supposed to believe no tape was in the machine. How convenient for Paul Koester. Now he can be the sole source of testimony, but we already know his statement contradicts physical evidence, and in the below video (click pic) we hear he was actually reading from a prepared list.

Const. Paul Koester enters courtroom. Click above left pic for video clip.

Note right photo: If Bush was on top of Koester, Koester would have had to lift the body
off himself and get from under a dead body that was supposedly on top of him.

RCMP influenced coroner in Bush murder.

This seals it, they had to cover up the evidence. They got rid of the tape showing Const. Paul Koester shooting Ian Bush in the back of the head after beating him, and now this below video shows they were trying to cover up and/or influence the coroners evidence as well.

Video shows RCMP were working with the coroner in a possible murder involving one of their own.

This is what the RCMP do folks.... They've been caught before covering up their crimes, and the public still continues to use this criminal syndicate for the service of "keeping the peace". They don't consider themselves "peace officers", they consider themselves wardens, and YOU as their wards or children. Heaven forbid that you should exercise your right to defend yourself with the exact same tools they use. No, they seem to like the monopoly of power, as all tyrants and their puppets do. THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS!

When will enough be enough? It appears from the below story, they are starting to see the need for yet more damage control. Naturally the majority of Canadians will be fooled by it once again..... Hey, they were sorry for the Air India bombing too... even after knowing when, and pulling ALL their dogs for a "training exercise". Now they have over 9 Billion extra dollars to (not) catch the next terrorist event. Want to know what happens then?

RCMP calls Bush shooting a horrible tragedy May 25/07 CNEWS

Bush said even after hearing all the testimony he thinks everything is in limbo.

"It seems to be like 'we sure flock together, don't we.' They (RCMP) just surround themselves in a little circle."

"I'm very angry and I think I will continue to be," said the 62-year-old trucker and carpenter.

[........]

Amid a public outcry over the decision, B.C. Attorney General Wally Oppal said Koester was acting in self-defence.

--------------------end quote from article--------------

Wally Oppal is of course the same man who has stated that WE THE PEOPLE do NOT have the right to use a firearm for self defence, and has supported the "conservative" plan to put such people in jail for 5 years. So don't be fooled by his "right to self-defence" rhetoric, it is merely a statement of support for the RCMP to use such statements as a cover for murder.

Now we finally have a few words from Ian Bush's friends who were with him that night. The stated that Bush had started a fight, and that it was unusual for the RCMP to issue tickets near the arena. List to this CTV clip for the RCMP's non-answer to a reporters question to that very issue..

Now for the evidence that busts open this whole case....

In addition to the contradictions by RCMP already reported on this webpage - like their claim that no video tape was put in the machine specifically installed to record holding facilities, for just such occasions. We now have expert testimony from a police blood spatter expert who categorically states the shooters version of events is NOT supported by the evidence. This below clip is the most important CTV clip in this series, so we urge you to watch.

Perhaps someone should ask Wally Oppal if he wishes to re-evaluate his knee jerk response that this officer was acting in self-defence? Clearly the 'blood spatter expert' in this above clip "has some serious issues"..... so why not the person supposedly in charge of the Police?  We bet he won't recommend any restrictive gun control laws for police officers [the only people he has such authority to do so, btw], so will he at the very least stop this absurd practice of 'police investigating police'? We he perform his duty [under oath] and instruct our police servants to stop infringing OUR INALIENABLE RIGHT to defend ourselves, with firearms?

Coroner's jury mulls RCMP shooting - July 6/2007

After seven days of emotional and at times testy testimony and conflicting evidence, the four men and one woman must now decide what happened inside an interview room in the local detachment Oct. 29, 2005.
[...]
After a brief, violent struggle, the officer says Bush was choking the life out of him when he managed to free his

9-mm firearm, pistol-whip the young man three times and then shoot him in the back of the head. He says Bush was behind him and on top of him when the shot was fired.

However, his memory of the events is spotty, the Bush family thinks he is not being honest and a forensic expert who was the last person to testify yesterday said the physical evidence does not support the constable's account.

--------end of article---------

Government panicking over Ian Bush inquest bombshell. Now all of a sudden they want a proper investigation. Full credit to the Bush family for keeping the RCMP's feet in the fire, or none of this would have ever happened. The RCMP structure their entire syndicate so as to cover over their crimes, and it is no accident that most upper level RCMP members are Masons. Masons promise [by oath of death] to never betray a "brother" and place loyalty to this secret occult society above all others. These individuals would need to be rooted out if there were any chance of salvaging this disgraced police department.

The BC Premier's only comment was to "make process more transparent". This is what politicians have been "changing" for decades.... always promising to do what should already exist, and yet no improvements are ever forthcoming. What needs to happen is a dismantling of the entire RCMP, and start from scratch going back to the old standard of recruiting socially conscious individuals, who also understand their only role is preservation of public liberty via enforcement of our ancient and true common law. We don't need military rejects and imbeciles who think joining the RCMP is a license to bully and intimidate people, and treat their employer [the public] as wards of the state. WE ARE FREE PEOPLE, AND WE WILL DEFEND OUR FREEDOM.

Well here's yet another example of how the so-called "law enforcement" agencies work. Only days after one lone cop comes forward with truth that damages one of "the brotherhood"  the dark guards of this secret society come out to punish him.

Cop who disputed RCMP testimony in Ian Bush shooting faces internal hearing - July 17/2007

VANCOUVER (CP) - The blood-spatter expert who disputed the RCMP's version
of events in the shooting death of a young man at the Houston, B.C.,
police station is facing a disciplinary hearing by the Edmonton Police
Service.

Staff Sgt. Greg Alcorn said Tuesday the hearing is not related to
testimony given by Const. Joe Slemko at the coroner's inquest into the
death of Ian Bush, 22, who was shot by a Mountie in October 2005.

He said the alleged internal offence "is related to an incident about a
year ago," although he wouldn't reveal details of the case.

Sgt. Tony Simioni of the Edmonton Police Association agreed the impending
hearing is from "a prior event," but said her understands the department
is also investigating Slemko regarding a procedural breach for not getting
proper clearance to testify at the Bush inquest. [full story]

Are you folks starting to get the idea of how things work yet? Will you help us with our mission?

Perhaps this latest revelation will help you draw a final conclusion in this matter? Bare in mind that every peace officer swears an oath to uphold the law of the land, not the policies of their department, particularly when such policies amount to obstruction of evidence and justice.

Police tried to stop officer from testifying
Blood-spatter expert faces discipline in fall

Charles Rusnell, CanWest News Service - Saturday, July 21, 2007

The Edmonton Police Service employed bureaucratic stonewalling in an attempt to block Const. Joe Slemko from providing expert evidence in a court case -- evidence that helped stay a first-degree murder charge -- a local defence lawyer says.

"It is almost an obstruction of justice," Bob Aloneissi said Friday. "There was relevant evidence to be given, the Edmonton Police Service knew that, but they were effectively trying to stop him from giving that evidence."

Slemko, an internationally recognized blood-spatter expert, will face a disciplinary hearing this fall for defying an order not to assist the defence in two cases in which he contradicted RCMP evidence.

Until recently, Edmonton police policy was to deny permission for their officers to testify for the defence.

Slemko was charged with insubordination after police Chief Mike Boyd ordered an internal investigation.

After the Edmonton Journal published stories about Slemko's conflict with his superiors, Boyd abruptly reversed his position, telling the police commission Wednesday that Slemko and other officers with expert credentials were free to testify for whomever they wished, as long as they told the chain of command in advance.

But it was a different story in 2006, when Slemko was asked to assist Aloneissi in a first-degree murder case in Drayton Valley. Jeffrey Chowace was accused of murdering his common-law wife during a drinking party. Provincial court Judge Marilyn White questioned how the blood-stain evidence supported the Crown's version of events. Aloneissi called Slemko, who reviewed the evidence and concluded that, if it was presented unchallenged, it likely would lead to a miscarriage of justice.

In March 2006, Slemko hand-delivered a memo to Edmonton police Asst. Supt. Chris Kellet's office, asking for permission to testify for the defence. On April 12, Slemko e-mailed Kellet, telling him he had to provide an answer to Aloneissi by April 21.

On April 18, fed up with waiting, Slemko provided his report to Aloneissi, who passed it on to the Crown. On April 19, Kellet denied Slemko permission to testify, without providing any explanation.

"I had been through this before," Slemko said. "They deal with it by not dealing with it. And then they turn around and charge me with insubordination for not getting permission."

Both Slemko and the medical examiner refuted the police theory on the murder. The Crown stayed the charges against Chowace.

Why is the BC government protecting cops who murder?

______

You know there's problems in the RCMP and our "justice system" when an RCMP member can rape young girls... never get charged... go back to police work.... and never have his face shown on the news.
